Does your horse's mane and/or tail have tangles in it? Ugh! I know what you're feeling. It's easy to get frustrated when trying to brush out a tangled mess in your horse's tail. But don't be tempted to yank and pull. Not only will your horse not appreciate it, but it will cause the tail hair to break off and look ugly.
I find that starting at the bottom and gently working my way up (little sections at a time) works well. I also use Cowboy Magic detangler when the tangles are especially bad. I've also found that if I use a little Cowboy Magic every day or every other day (A little bit goes a long way, so one bottle lasts me a long time), it keeps my horse's mane and tail from getting badly knotted in the first place.
Happy Riding!
