North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains Real Estate | Donna Yates, Realtor | Move 2 North Georgia
Rain again today and a lot of it at times. Seems we have either had rain or snow more often than not since the New Year. I'm not complaning though. The snow didn't stick around too terribly long and as always, very pretty. We had more ice with the first snow event and it took a bit longer for the roads to recover, shutting down some places that even surprised me, such as downtown Blue Ridge. The rain, well... I admit, I could stand to see a little less of it but I'm sure I won't feel that way in the heat of July and August. We may see a few early morning snow flurries tomorrow but that's about it. Still in all, you can almost feel spring isn't that far away. I won't be surprised if we have one more snow event and certainly more rain before "spring is sprung".
For me, what signals spring's arrival is our Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race every year in April. This year will mark thirteen years. Teams are getting ready to run, paddle and bike their way through our gorgeous mountains on April 10, 2010.
Turning to real estate: Buyer activity is better than expected considering the weather and wintertime traditionally being the slowest time of the year. I had some really great folks call me up after a long break from looking at properties, to tell me they were ready to buy! They had been looking for more than a year. I appreciate their loyalty more than they will know. They got an excellent deal in Copperhead Lodge on a really nice log cabin. If you haven't been to this great resort in Union County, just outside of Blairsville, you really should plan a visit soon. There's a beautiful lodge for dining, outdoor amphitheatre and oversized swimming pool. I've met some of the friendliest people who are second home owners or thinking about it. The new owners of Copperhead Lodge are energetic and forward thinking. They have great activities planned this year and have already hosted a couple of member only parties. More events to come which will be open to the public when the season gears up in the spring. Also, good buys on real estate in the resort right now.
Buyer activity has been up since summer of 2009 and I really believe this is THE year for home buyers. Interest rates are still so low, good inventory and tax incentives for exisiting homeowners which may apply. These tax incentives end April 30th so spring will be the last chance to get on board. Also, some positive news from the financial markets this week that will help second home buyers get a better break on down payment options. I am looking forward to a busy year and welcoming some of my past clients back who were looking last year but not quite ready to buy and eager to meet new ones. I think this year is THE year!
This is superbowl Sunday this weekend, and after I spend Saturday showing log cabins in Fannin, Union and Glmer counties, I plan to spend my Sunday after church, making great eats for the game. I can't wait to settle in Sunday night for the big game! A busy weekend ahead filled with work that I love, and a great gathering with family and friends. One of the greatest comebacks in Super Bowl History - watch here! Now, that's what I'm talking about...
