Read somewhere that builder's will now target baby boomers to buy into their new home communities. And that this group of people are unpredictable, and hard to understand. I then ponderedn the thougth "Is Charlotte attractive enough to convince boomers to buy here?" My answer...Yes!
To be successful in their endeavors, I believe New Home Builders must completely understand, Boomers are unique in that, they are educated and love to learn, respect nature, and humanity. They are also frugal when it comes to spending money, and want whatever they decide to buy to be very much worth it. So if builders want to attract this group, they must pay attention to details.
To interest boomers, I believe a city must have all the comforts of home. There will need to be a percentage of nearby top ranked colleges, a healthy housing market and economy, a green living index, reasonable state and income taxes, and availability of good health care. Charlotte, NC has all of the above, and more.
From our stella local colleges and reputable universities, with Central Piedmont Community College "CPCC" recognized as one of the top community colleges in our nation ( http://www.cpcc.edu/learningcollege ), along with constant media coverage as being one of the best places to buy a home (see Forbes magazine recent article ( http://www.forbes.com/2010/01/21/buying-versus-renting-lifestyle-real-estate-homes_slide.html ), and can't forget the Arts ( http://www.blumenthalcenter.org/ ) Charlotte should not be overlooked!
I'd love to tell you all about the different townships, clusters of unique neighborhoods, and wonderful recreational activities that abound in Charlotte, and neighboring areas, if you've considered Charlotte as your next home.
