I can now mark off one of my goals on my 2010 Business Plan. I have attended my first REALTOR convention. Kind of sad when you stop to realize I've had my license going into my 11th year! This years convention was held in Charleston S.C. We stayed at Charleston Place www.charlestonplace.com and I knew from the first step into the lobby that "Toto, we're not in Kansas (or should I say Georgia) anymore!" The place was gorgeous, room service phenomenal however anyone who knows me knows that first thing in the morning...I WANT COFFEE! There wasn't the first bit of coffee equipment to be found in our rooms. So our choices were go to the Thoroughbred Grill ($7 per cup...yikes!), go down the street to the Starbucks or get a cup from a little shop off one of the halls on lobby level. UHHHH No! I want my coffee in the morning, in bed or while I am getting ready. Enough said on the coffee issue.
This year's motto was Take Care of Business NOW MORE THAN EVER. Dana Bauguss, our 2010 President, welcomed everyone and they even had a Welcome First Time Attendee Ceremony. When we registered they had designation ribbons that could be attached to our names so along with my ABR ribbon I got to parade around all week with my BRIGHT PINK First Time Attendee ribbon.
The Continuing Education Courses that I attended were OUTSTANDING! Here is a sample of a few:
•1. What Your Appraiser Isn't Telling You - Karen L. Loftus k.l.loftus@comcast.net
•2. Enhancing Customer Service Through Public Records - Glenn Zinder gzinder@crsdata.com
•3. Bullet Training Thinking: Re-tool, Re-engineer, Re-think The Way You Do Real Estate - Verl Workman www.pqpipeline.com
•4. What's Your Outlook? - Juanita McDowell www.thesmartchannel.blogspot.com
•5. FHA Essentials - Juanita McDowell www.thesmartchannel.blogspot.com
Our Guest Speaker, Lt. Col. Rob "Waldo" Waldman author of NEVER FLY SOLO was very motivational and pumped everyone up with his courageous stories of his experiences as a decorated former combat F-16 fighter pilot. His motto "Push It Up" is an example of how he leads his life. To find out more on him go to: www.neverflysolo.com
Most evenings we were free to go our own way so we checked out several eating establishments. Here are a few we tried out and I will list them from most favorite to least:
•1. Grill 225 At Market Pavilion Hotel - M-A-R-V-E-L-O-U-S
•2. Hanks - W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L
•3. Mercato - G-R-E-A-T Italian Food
•4. Jestine's Kitchen - Great Fried Green Tomatoes & Corn Fritters + Veggies
•5. Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory - We were disappointed... :-(
A WONDERFUL assortment of desserts were offered at every single one including a variety of Bread Puddings, Coca Cola Cake and Key Lime Pie!
They did have a social event on Thursday evening with a 1920's "Charleston Theme", The Inaugural Gala Ball and good ol' Bingo on Friday afternoon.
If you haven't attended a convention please do not wait as long as I did to go! I am so glad to have gone and now I am looking forward to the ActiveRain Camp coming to ATLANTA so I can scratch ANOTHER goal off my 2010 Business Plan! Hint...Hint...Hint!
