There has been a number of events and announcements over the last several months that indicate that Affordable Homes for sale in Columbus, GA and surrounding area should spend less time on the market in 2010 and beyond. This area encompasses Columbus, Ft. Benning, Midland, Upatoi, and Ellerslie areas in Georgia and Phenix City, Smith Station, and Ft. Mitchell in Alabama just to name the major places in the area.
One event that will have a major effect on affordable homes for sale is the shift in the amount of military personal and contractors in the area. Through the Army's BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) initiative The Armor School at Fort Knox, KY will be moving to Ft. Benning, GA. This will be a $3.5 million capital investment. The Department of Defense estimates the amount of people to the area including Military Service members, government civilian workers, and government contractors along with spouses and children to be over 28,000 people! The Armor School move starts March 2010 and should be complete in September of 2011.
These people will need homes! Fort Benning spreads over Georgia and Alabama so this will affect Affordable homes for sale in Columbus, Midland, Upatoi, and Ellerslie in Georgia but also Phenix City, Fort Mitchell, and Smith Station in Alabama. They will buy some of the new Affordable homes for sale as well as existing homes. Some of the people who they buy homes from will stay here in the market and buy more Affordable homes for sale creating a domino effect.
