In Loving Memory of Eloise Hause.....108 Great Years!

Today my double first cousin twice removed passed away.  I wrote about visiting her last summer, when she was still living in her home in Hartford, Alabama.  She celebrated her 108th birthday December 29th, 2009.

Eloise Hause

Eloise was an amazing lady, full of personality and mischief even in her advanced age.  She lived longer than all her siblings and cousins (with the exception of her cousin Nina who is still living), remaining in her own home until just a few months ago.  I'm not sure exactly when it was that she agreed to allow someone to stay with her at her house, but only a few years ago she was still piddling around in her yard which she loved!

Eloise and my grandmother, Lillian, were double first cousins, each were the first born children of their parents.  Their fathers were brothers (Hardwicks) who married sisters (Corbitts).  Eloise and my grandmother, and their siblings grew up together, their families lived in homes next to each other on family farmland in Geneva County, eventually moving to town.....Hartford, where they raised the next generation of kids, including my mom.

Eloise was the oldest of all the kids, but many of them lived into their 90s......my grandmother was 93 when she died in 1998.  We have great genes in our family!

Rest in peace Ella!

Ann, that's quite a wry smile on Eloise's face.  In her passing it's obvious that love had something to do with a long life.  I heard that of kids born today 50% will see 100 years of life.  I hope theirs is as fulfilling as hers.  I was lucky enough to have enjoyed two great grandmothers who kept their mischeivious traits also.  God bless you both!

God Bless Her! She really did look fabulous....

I wonder some days if I'm going to make 50, let alone 70 or 80! At this rate, I'll be selling real estate at that age and be pushing a walker while I'm doing it!

Scare me! Oh, and the next time we see each other, can you draw me a picture to explain...

I had to go Google "double first cousin." And then twice removed! And then 108! I wonder if it was the double good genes that led to a long and active life! RIP.

Sorry for your loss. Ann, I know you all will miss her. It is impressive that she lived such an independent life for almost all her life. It is great that she got to enjoy her home and extended family for long time. There are so many lessons to be learned from a person who comes with all those life time experiences. My condolences to you and your family

I am glad to know you as friend. You are a wonderful and well balanced person. I plan to hang out with you for a long long time, let's just hope that I get to live over 100 like you. MY thought and prayers today will be dedicated to Eloise.

Ann, Eloise sounds like a remarkable woman!  A double first cousin - I have never heard of that before - how neat is that!  How does one live to be 108 years old? I chuckled when you wrote that she was full of mischief - that was probably what kept her around for so many years - her great personality.  From her picture she looks fiesty - I love it.  So, sad to hear of your loss. I am sure there will be many happy memories around the table remembering Eloise.  Thanks for sharing!

Ann,

She must have been an awesome woman!  Just think about all she lived through..the depression, invention of the car, man on the moon, computers....cellphones.....amazing!

You are going to live a long time my friend!

Isn't she precious?  I get tickled thinking about some of the stories she told me last summer about being the oldest cousin and how she aggravated her siblings and cousins!  At 107 years of age she was laughing about messing with the younger ones when she could drive, and relayed stories of having to apologize to her dad for being reckless in the family car while toting the younger ones around She enjoyed spinning the car in the farm sand and scaring the younger ones!  She was responsible but loved her status as the one in charge!
