The market conditions in Defiance, Ohio have continued to trudge along at a slow pace the first month or so of this year. This past week there were only two homes sold in the city of Defiance.
The sluggishness of this area, I believe has more to do with the weather than it does with the economy. Though we've had our share of layoffs and loss of jobs in our market, the weather has been rough. We have only had a few days this year that have been warm enough for people to actually want to get out and see houses. This week proved the difficulties of the season with about 10 inches of snow being dropped on us.
If, however, one were to venture out into this weather to search for a home, they would be pleasantly surprised at the number of homes that are available at a good price. If we were to add the good prices together with the tax rebates being offered by the government, one could find some good deals.
We continue to have a problem like most of the country when it comes to foreclosures and those homes flooding the market as there are about twelve homes on the sheriff's office site coming up for auction.
