This is a true story about being in the right place at the right time with the wrong outcome.
Back in 1998, I was working as a construction superintendent for a mid-level construction firm here in New Jersey. We had just demo'ed an old flooring warehouse and were beginning to construct a new Home Depot on Rt 17 north in Lodi New Jersey. This was in the boom of the 'Big-Box' explosion and work was plentiful.
For you people not farmilar with North Jersey and Rt 17, it a densly populated area with many malls and nearby highways. Directly across the Rt 17 from my project was a 'Gentlemens' club.
Anyway, we had just started to erect the structural steel and I get a visit from several guys scoping the area. These guys are from a new television show and they are looking for a construction site to shoot several scenes. Oh, by the way, they are looking for some 'extras' for the shooting. This site was perfect, all they need is for my boss to sign off on some paperwork and we are all set. So I call the office and give them a heads-up; it's all good, right?
NOPE. My boss refuses to sign off because of the liability. Shoot, there goes my plans for an acting career; right down the toilet.
The 'Gentlemens' club? It's called Satin Dolls AKA 'The Bada Bing'
The Television show? Well, it was a small success called "The Sopranos'
Me? I coulda been a star!
