The opening ceremony of the Olympics occurred last evening and there was something very comforting about it. Did you feel it too?
The pride of Canada, the energy and sparkle each athlete had on their face and in their hearts as they entered that stadium, gave comfort that something normal and spectacular is about to happen. After all the things we have seen throughout the world in the past few years, not to mention just the past few months, the beginning of the Olympics takes all of us to a magical place.
The accident of the young Georgian athelet left all of us with a sense of loss, we all admire his courage and rally with all the others to honor him. There is a spirit that cannot be broken and I think that is something than we need to recapture.
So many have lost or are losing their homes and with that their spirit. Do you find yourselves in your daily work helping to rebuild peoples spirit? Along with all the menial details of the short sale, foreclosure paperwork, dealing with the banks, etc, our profession has become enriched with a greater sense of compassion. Now more than ever we as a profession can rise above and show our true worth.
The Olympics come every two years and yet for me, it seems like its been longer. Things have not seemed normal for quite some time. The Olympics bring me back to normal and these athletes set the example on how to remain focused to be the best , even through these trying times. That is the international tie that binds us all together.
So if this is the new normal, I welcome the challenge as a Realtor to provide "spirit " to those I have the pleasure to encounter everyday.
