The Buzz about Google Buzz - death of Twitter?

Now that we have had a few days to use Buzz on the "open market" it's starting to get more and more attention. Here are some things I have observed about using Google Buzz from my personal perspective.

  1. Simple to join - I have a Gmail account so it was automatically on my Gmail page when I logged in.
  2. A little troubling - it had automatically followed the people I most email. Frankly I didn't want some of them added so I immediately "un-followed" them.
  3. Allows photos inline - unlike Twitter if you post a link to photos in your post it will display them in a slideshow lightbox. This is a cool feature even better than Facebook.
  4. Allows videos inline - not in comments but in the original post. All you have to do is post a link to any YouTube video, your own or others, and it automatically embeds and is playable inline.
  5. Will be integrating with Google Apps - that means if you have a Google app like a countdown timer to the end of the First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit or a Google map you can push it out to all of your followers. Obviously this also opens the door for custom developed Google apps like my mortgage finance estimator.
  6. On of my personal favorites - editable posts and comments! No more living with type-os or misspellings.

Google Buzz
Inline video is very simple with Google Buzz - paste the link to any YouTube video.

Ken might be a little premature to start burying Twitter. You never know what they have up their sleeve to counter Google with!

Craig - let me know what you think.

Tammy - give it a shot and tell me how you find it for your self.

Sandy - it's very similar to Twitter and the live stream (news feed) from Facebook.

Douglas - agreed. But it gets people to read, eh?

Duane - for me it was just like walking and chewing gum because it's integrated in Gmail which I use a lot.

Tested out the video chat with the wife the other day - was fairly crisp and very little delay even at full screen. I read how Buzz allows others to read your e-mails? I didn't follow up on that, but I'm sure it will be fixed. I don't use my gmail for anything but Buzz at this point.

Just in the last couple of days I noticed the Buzz on my gmail account, but really hadn't played with it to see what it was all about.  Sounds like it could be one more addiction to add to the list :)
