Hi Gerry ~ Who would've thunk it?! I thought it was a buffalo too - a llama would never have occurred to me.
Liz
I missed the first post but looked back and I would NEVER have figured it out.
Surprise surprise, a llama! He looks perfectly content out there Gerry, but lonely. Was there a herd? I have been reading about them, and they are often used to guard sheep. Interesting looking aren't they?
Talk about getting up close and personal. That last photo is spectacular. I love the blues and yellows. You should enlarge and frame.
Gerry - Are we going to start seeing regular postings of llamas in Montana? We might have some at the Toronto Zoo.
OK- I was with the buffalo folks on this one and I never would have guessed llama. I agree with Debi, "Buffalo/llama.... What's the difference? LOL" Very fun! Have a great day and keep the pics coming - always the highlight of my day!
Our llamas look significantly different:
Maybe it's because they get all sorts of loving and grooming from the Zookeepers.
Liz,
I only see llamas once in a while on some of the ranches around here. The buffalos are numerous in Yellowstone National Park (with the northeastern entrance just 69 miles from Red Lodge).
Mary,
I will admit that they are very interesting looking. This one was by itself. They make very good guards around sheeps and known to scare potential danger from predators away. I have seen a herd of 3 llamas on another ranch near Red Lodge.
Jenny,
I have so many I would like to enlarge and frame that I would quickly run out of space to hang them on walls. I am happy for the opportunity to share some of my favorites here on ActiveRain. Thank you for the positive feedback. :)
Marc,
No plans for regular postings of llamas. They are a treat to watch when I run across them but they seem to hang around in the same locations. For my regular postings, I will stick to the moosely unpredictable wild life appearances! :)
Geri,
Always a pleasure to have you visit my posts. Thank you for the positive reinforcements!
Russel,
From the looks of it, it looks like the llama in Montana like to roll in the hay more often. They don't seem to mind having their fur grow long and having plenty of food available to eat or play in.
Gabriella,
I am sure Portuguese would be easy to pick up for me. I would enjoy learning it and using it if I ever went to visit Portugal or Brazil.
Obrigado!
Aha! I was close! Buffalo/llama.... What's the difference? LOL
