Lessons I Learn from the Olympics

Anytime there is an Olympics, you can find me glued to the TV soaking up the wonderful Olympic spirit!  I swell with pride as athletes who have dedicated their lives to a sport, step onto the medal podium and accept their dream of receiving an Olympic medal.

I also really enjoy the stories that are told about the different athletes.  To hear how so many have overcome overwhelming odds and challenges is quite inspiring.  After watching athlete after athlete attempt incredible feats, I just want to get off of that couch and get my heart rate up!

The Olympic spirit can carry over into our professionals lives too.  When we can learn to pick ourselves up after a deal goes south or to hang tough with a difficult client, we too can experience the joy of success in all things.  We can also celebrate our wins with our fellow agents in the business.  Having our own cheering section of fellow professionals can be very rewarding indeed.

Here are some of the main skills that I take away from these Olympic athletes:

TRAINING - receiving the most up-to-date education in my field of business can propel me to the next level.

STAMINA - learning to make the best use of my time and to work hard will always help me to be the best agent that I can be.

DEDICATION - without complete dedication to what I do, I would never reach my fullest potential.

FLEXIBILITY - I must be able to adapt to changes within my market and to be flexible when I need to.

FINISHING STRONG - no matter what I do, I must always complete my work to the best of my ability and to never give up.

GOAL SETTING - finally, if I continually set goals both personally and professionally, I find that I am more productive and successful in all areas of my life.

So, as you watch the Olympics over the next few weeks, take a few minutes to think about adopting some of the athletes skill sets into your own and GO FOR THE GOLD!

Hi Paula,  Enjoyed your post.  When I see the winners on the podium I wonder how it must change their lives !  Mostly for the better I'm sure.  That said, I really appreciate it when a U. S. athlete makes an attempt to sing our national anthem !

Thank you Jeanean.  You guys are so awesome on this site!

Bill - I can't imagine a life not being changed by an Olympic experience.  I would be too emotional if I were up there on that stand to even utter a word!

Karen - thank you and yes, I hope to be one of those people who continues to learn for a life time!

Thank you Shanna!  I was fortunate enough young in life to have some excellent coaches.  The things I learned way back then have followed me throughout my life!

Paula,

Excellent post!!!  After watching Shawn White take the lead (and ultimately hold it) after the first round in the snowboarding competition, and then deciding to give even more in the second round,  you can't help being inspired to do your best.

Thanks for the reminder.....

Paula,

Thanks for the reminder and words of wisdom.  The Olympics are my families favorite thing to watch all year.  In fact, we are going up to Vancouver to morrow for the day, just to get into the spirit.  We record every moment of the games and then watch what we want.  Problem is, that I can never watch all that I want to watch.  And then we have to wait 4 more years for the next round.

I have been recording them too so I can savor it later whenever I want.  I love the summer Olympics too so really we only have to wait 2 more years!  :)

It is truly inspirational to witness the magnificent feats of speed, strength, and endurance that have been accomplished by this year's Olympians.  I hope the U.S. success so far continues with the hockey team.
