Secret of Appreciation

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Central Coast

I am a friendly, caring woman, and as a Realtor, with Keller Williams Realty Central Coast, work very hard behind the scenes for my clients (Buyers and Sellers). Good thing I am detail oriented and also patient. Being a good Realtor takes a lot of time managing an enormous ammount of details. They can not see ALL I do for them. They do not see me research or the many emails/phone calls I make to find the availability of the property my client wants to view at a time that works best for them, or time it takes to make print out for them of properties we will go see. They do not see the time involved searching for comparables of Solds or Active Listings so they know what price to offer for the home they really want.

They also do not see the dollars that have been spent for them for the large Red sign in their front yard or directional and Open House signs around their neighborhood leading potential buyers to their property for drive by or viewing. The expense of having the sign put up and taken down and for the lockbox on their front door. The expense to join the MLS Association yearly and the monthly and quarterly charges agents pay to be their Realtor and the expenses of continuing education courses and seminars. Cost of Ads taken out in local newspapers and magazines, time spent putting info and photos on my website, on Craigslist and in getting all their property info onto MLS to be seen and shown by other agents to sell their property in a timely manner.

They don't know of the time it takes to answer calls, set up apts to show their property to agents, arrange caravan for agents on selected MLS mornings. They don't know of the time it takes to write up their 15 page offer or listing on CA legal forms and to contact appraiser, lender, repair and pest companies on their behalf. Time and effort spent working with my Transaction Coordinator (who is a gem) to make sure escrow moves smoothly and title company has evenything they need to close on time. They don't know how much I am trying to help them and how late I stay up working on my computer to that end.  Also there is the cost of business cards, ink, paper, computer, internet, printer, cell phone, etc, etc.

I try to treat others the way I want to be treated. So it is exceptionally nice to work with Clients who sense how hard I work for them, have seen the results of what I have been busy doing for them and to hear them say, "You are different". "You care about me". "You walk your talk". "I am so thankful to have you as my Realtor". "Thank you for all your hard work." Boy that is so great to hear!! All the effort is worth it when you are simply appreciated. A kind 'Thank you' goes a long way!

All so true and it's also important for us to remember to appreciate other agent's efforts even though they are voicing opinions opposite to our own and those of our clients. Thanks to all agents who work hard.

Nicolette, one of the hard ironies of our job is that we want it to look as if we have everything under control and worry-free for the client and that creates an illusion that it's easy and we didn't work hard to get them in or out of a property. I've had clients bring me gifts at closing and I've had clients tell me they didn't think I what I did was worthy of the commission I would receive. What my previous broker would tell us was the risks we took were justification for our commission but we truely work very hard. Have a Happy and Successful New Year!
