I wasn't sure if this was a rumor or what but had to find out about it... Did you know when you hit the 40 year mark as REALTOR® then it sounds like no fees to pay anymore....

A REALTOR Emeritus® is any person who has held membership in the National Association as a REALTOR®, REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®, or a combination of both, for a cumulative period of 40 years in one or more Associations of REALTORS®, is eligible for REALTOR Emeritus® status.  Upon approval by the Board of Directors of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, no further payment of dues is necessary to the local Board Association or the National Association.

The dues waiver does not take affect until the following dues season.

Upon approval, each REALTOR Emeritus® member will receive a congratulatory letter, certificate and 40-year REALTOR Emeritus® lapel pin.

Wow!  Something I did not know!

Well I hope I hit the 40 year mark but for now I am just about 5 years into the business!  Wish you all luck in getting this award!  It is a nice one!

Has any of you hit the 40 year mark in real estate?  Tell me about it!

Hi Tom ~ I don't want to think about doing real estate at the forty year mark! It wasn't my first career so I won't be a spring chicken. Those agents have earned their free membership!

What a great benefit to the more stalwart amongst us. I wonder how many have achieved this milestone?  I was aware that old Realtors never die, they just grow listless.

Tom:  Hmmm... I became licensed in July of 1973.  I had never heard of Realtor Emeritus status.  I thought I would simply declare myself a Goddess... which would then cause my local board to start sending ME money.  But... I like your idea, too.

I started in real estate when I was 60, so this should make it a very special celebration when I hit 100.

Hi Guy Thomas,

Yes old REALTORS ® never die they grow "Listless" that is a great point!

I too wonder how many are out there that achieved this!  I guess we have to ask NAR for the answer to that question!

Tom,

A friend started selling RE in 1953 when I was 3 years old. He retired "officially" in 1989. I don't know anyone who has sold longer than him.
