Views of Paradise .... Alligator Country 02-14-2010

Howdy folks,

Took a drive to Alligator Country earlier today to see what I could see. Went down Hwy 41 into the Everglades and I believe at least 1/3 of Naples did the same .... LOTS of people going to check out the wildlife.

Weather is a tad cold with partly cloudy skies. The gators started to come out around noon time to warm themselves up in the sunshine.... at least when the sun was out.

Here are some pics...

First photo is the boardwalk in the fakahatchee strand..

Took this pic from about 4 feet away. He was roughly 8ft long or longer!!

Smallwood General Store ... Now a museum.

Sean - that's the Tamiami Trail, isn't it? Is that boardwalk just outside of one of the entrances to the Evergades Park? Looks familiar to me. That's pretty close to get to that size of a gator! Great shots, keep 'em coming.

Sean,

I think that I visted that very spot in 1989.

Hey Mike,

The Fakahatchee Strand boardwalk is right next to an Indian Village on Hwy41 (Tamiami Trail).

Thanks for the comments.

Sean - It's amazing to me that the laws are still protecting gatorss. I know that the population is probably higher than it's been in over 50 years. I would be careful with my dog around the water.
