I am very proud of Dr Hickman Principal of Burke County High School. His dedication the the Burke County Schools is parallel to none. When I met Dr Hickman in 2002 he was still Mr Hickman, and the Assistant Principal of Blakney Elementary. At that time I was the PTA President and Dr Hickmas was very helpful in assisting us to encourage more parents to be involved. From the Bronze Medal award that Burke Co High School has achieved, Dr Hickman's Deserves to be recognized has a unequaled Principal serving not only the needs of the students, but also the staff that he has rallied and supported to strive every day to the their best for the Students of Burke County High School. Kudos to all of you!

Burke County Ga-“Validating in a lot of ways,” said Wayne Hickman principal of Burke County High located in Waynesboro Georgia.
A validation that Wayne Hickman a proud Principal of Burke County High School has been waiting for. US News named Burke County high school a Bronze Medal school of 2010 and World Report listing of America’s best high schools. Not to mention the list of the top 29 schools in Georgia. An accomplishment of knowing that their hard work did not go unnoticed.
“Something like this comes along kind of unexpectedly and it gives you a chance to step back and kind of reflect and say you knew we really were doing the right thing,” said Hickman.
I asked him what he felt helped them make this success.
“The teachers have dug in the past several years to make sure that they are teaching the Georgia performance standards,” said Hickman. “Their continually learning everything they can of appropriate strategies in standard base classrooms.”
Inclusion, equity, excellence these are three words that drive teaching and learning at Burke County High School.
“That's where the difference has been made is at the classroom level, with teachers really digging in and committing themselves to bring about a atmosphere where students can be successful,” said Hickman.
Burke County wasn't the only school that had success. AR Johnson and Davidson Fine Arts both were Gold medal schools. Success in our area that Principal Hickman says will continue.
“We will keep it rolling. We keep striving to make those gains that we need to make and we do that because we want the students and Burke County to have the best education that they can have and the best possible future that they can have once they leave us.
