When a fellow agent dies...

By
Real Estate Agent with Advantage Realty #1

...it's not much different than losing a family member, especially when it is a seasoned agent that has taken you under their wing when you first received your real estate license.

Those agent are like grandparents. They bring home made chicken soup to work and will not stop bugging you until you eat a bowl - because it's good for you, that's why!

They know thousands of stories about days long gone, when real estate was done without the internet and cell phones. They never run out of stories to tell and they never run out of advice to give - good advice, that will save your butt.

Those agents will watch over your first listings, making sure you didn't forget anything. They will rip your first offer right out of your hand to check all the critical points, just to make sure your butt is covered. They never cease to worry about you, they never stop giving advice.

They buy you birthday cakes and sing "Happy Birthday", no matter how embarassing it is for you. They give you hugs when you need them and they listen to all your worries about not getting the listing and how to carry a transaction to closing. They stand up for you if another agent is about to rip you a new one because nobody messes with anyone in their office.

They are the reason why us younger agents turn out somewhat decent.

Thank you Pat and Nancy!

Thank you all for your replies. Go and hug one of those agents in your office or former office. Let them know how  much they are appreciated. They won't be around forever.

It is your turn to do the same as you meet new agents. Teach them the correct ways of doing real estate. Thanks for sharing your memory. Keep passing down the stories.

A great lesson is being of service not only to clients but also to other agents.  I always offer my time to newer agents.  It's my way of giving back and it keeps the energy moving forward.  Not planning on any early exit.  Just think it's good karma.  Thanks for your post.

In our neck of the woods, there are so many veteran agents who have lots of experience that have mentored and supported those who are younger. It is great to recognize their talents!
