Stager House Hunting!?!?!

By
Home Stager with Restage Inc.

We recently started house hunting for our family. With a growing family (3 girls....need more bathrooms) and a busy lifestyle we've outgrown our home.

Being a stager / designer makes it especially difficult when were looking at a house for us.

I thought I could be more objecive and look past all of the personal items and weird paint but guess what I'm looking at the houses for myself and not as a stager.

It seems that I'm just like every other buyer and wish a stager would have visited the house before us. I don't want to see dirty clothes or family pictures. I spend so much time telling clients what to do with their houses and what not to do to I forget that not everyone uses a stager.

Bottom line is I'm a worse buyer than most because I'm SOOOO picky. I'm driving everyone nut's...my realtor, my husband and myself. That's pretty bad when you drive yourself nuts....

So the hunt continues and I'm leaning towards building a custom house..................

Stick to your fussy ways. They'll pay off in the end and you'll find a great home.

Don't give up on yourself.

Size and well maintained are most important.  Just block at all the rest as if it were an empty listing ... you can work your magic when it becomes yours.

That is the hard part when looking for yourself, you see just how much more inviting the home could be if first they would have called a stager...

Hi Kim - I know how you feel!  Two of the three homes I have purchased in the past were "staged" and it so helped my perception of the overall home.  Even for those of us who are professional stagers, a well staged home is so much more appealing to purchase than a poorly staged or vacant home.  Buying a home is an emotional decision!

I was the voice of reason when my son was looking for his first house.  At first they thought I was being too picky because I'm a stager and I was not being realistic to what he could afford. They thought I was being snobby and unrealistic.  He actually put an offer on a dump that I was totally against and at the inspection the inspector told him to "run as far away as fast as he could."  He took me much more seriously after that.  I knew what I was talking about.  Being picky is a very good thing...trust your instincts and don't settle.  The right one is out there and you will know when you see it.
