By
Real Estate Agent with The Mayer Group of eXp Realty

The place Chick and Ruths Delly in Annapolis MD

The time - Approx 2PM

The deal - 6lb milkshake and a 1.5lb sandwich in one hour

Who - Ethan Fox

The Prize - a T-shirt

The results -

Starting out Ethan was feeling confidant after rigorous training including yoga stomach stretching techniques and drinking a gallon of water earlier in preparation.

Ethan FoxWhen the food was delivered there was much fanfare. Announcements on the intercom, pictures and customers cheering. Ethan had to fill out a form so his information could be displayed properly on the website, then it was down to business.

Lets take a second to dissect exactly whats involved here. First is the milkshake. One half gallon of vanilla ice cream, one half gallon of milk and 16 ounces of syrup! This is serious now...

Man vs FoodThe sandwich is 1.5 lbs of meat and two pieces of bread. That's not pre-cooked weight, this is straight turkey, no mayo...

My previous research taught me that there is something called "The Wall." In competitive eating you are taught that you have 6-8 minutes before your brain figures out that you ate way too much and you feel full. So the plan is to woof down as much as you can in the first 8 minutes because its not getting easier after that.

Chick and RuthsThen the timer gets delivered and the rules are laid out. You can start to see the seriousness of the situation on Ethan's face.

Man versus foodEthan decided that the milkshake would be the hardest and immediately started gulping the dairy bliss.

Can you feel the confidence beaming from this man?

Annapolis MDWell at first it looked like Ethan was on to a possible career in competitive eating but the cold started to set in.

Uh Oh somethings wrong!  I think we are approaching the wall.

The brain has caught up with the stomach and the stomach is extremely upset about the gallon of frozen dairy! Lets not forget the sandwich young Ethan. I will say he got most of it.

One last pause to reconsider- "where is my life going right now?" Well Ethan is a Johns Hopkins Junior so I think its going in the right direction but how will it end?

DefeatAnd here is the white flag dirty protein sweat filled napkin of defeat and ITS OVER!Fortunately Ethan's life has not taken a downward spiral as one might expect. After a few hours walking and rethinking a career in milkshake eating competitions in the state and county fair circuit, it was back to the books...

Brian...I watched the episode where the Man vs. Food guy beat the challenge, that is some crazy stuff. Always wonder how they feel the day after.

I saw that episode also. That is just way too much dairy to consume at once. I have been going to the Diners Drive INs and Dives locations all around the US. Been to about 30 places i think. Will post on it later this week.

Hey guys, thank you for the comments. Even though Ethan was not victorious in the end, he did know when to quit. Had he stayed at it much longer, there might have been dire consequences!

So sometimes you have to know when to quit!

Great documentary on Ethan's challenge.  I really thought he would pull it out knwing Ethan and how focused he is.  Well, your right... back to the books is a much better decision.

LOL Stephanie it was not for lack of trying. I think that milkshake looks a lot smaller on the TV show and on the internet than in person.

Bob~ that guy did it in 20 minutes

Stacey~ I read about competitive eating and they say out of all the competitions, dairy has the worst after effect. I wont get into it but I am happy to say Ethan is doing fine LOL!

btw the record for mayo is four 32oz jars in 8 minutes! That is GROSS

I've seen a mayonnaise eating contest on tv.  I like mayo but really any mayo by itself is gross much less 4 big jars in half an hour!

I finished 2 of the 6lbs giant milkshakes, the first one in 9 minutes, waited for 10 mins for the second one and also finished in 9 mins, so 28 mins total for not 1 but 2 giant shakes :)
