CRIPPLE CREEK ICE FESTIVAL

By
Mortgage and Lending with WR Starkey Mortgage

The 3rd ANNUAL CRIPPLE CREEK ICE FESTIVAL is underway and will last through the end of February, weather willing. The Ice Sculptures are located outside on Historic Bennett Avenue in the famous old gold mining town of Cripple Creek Colorado. The scenery is gorgeous in this valley on the back side of Pikes Peak. So bring your cameras. There are activities for the adults and children while they watch the world famous sculptors work with chain saws and a plethora of cutting chisels to create their unbelievable art work.

Dress warm as the mountaiun air can be chilly this time of year. There are also a number of vendors with food and drink for everyone. Don't leave without visiting some of the gambling casinos and restaurants which line the streets throughout the town.

The real star of the show, though, are the gorgeous, intricate ice sculptures glistening in the sun. The creative work is really something to be seen and enjoyed this time of the year.

I live in Broomfield, a suburb north of Denver, and I had no idea that Cripple Creek had an Ice Festival.  Nice!

Guy....great pictures, but it's probably cold up there and I am still in denial after returning from San Diego. The only ice I care to see are the cubes floating in my glass of Kettle One.

Something I've never been to is an ice festival. Occasionally one of the Christmas buffets here will have a large ice sculpture, but that's about it.

Beautiful.  It would be really wonderful to attend one of these... think I'll have to add it to my "bucket list".

thanks for all the comments. This is really an interesting display. It is kind of like the sand sculptures in California. People's creative abilities are amazing.

Guy I have never been to one of these festivals but they usually look very interesting.  I am sure this one was appreciated by everyone in attendance.

Hi Guy~ This sounds like a really fun event! Does it take them pretty much the entire weekend to complete their sculptures? I bet it is a sight to see! Love the pictures! One of my husbands favorite places is Pikes Peak. We will have to make it up there to see this sometime.

This could never happen in San Diego. They would melt! That is why we stick to sand.....

Actually Steph, they can do most of these in a few hours. When they are using the chain saw you would be surprised how fast it takes shape.

I think I have been through Cripple Creek before but can't remember where it is located!  The ice festival (now way over) looks like a really original event to show off artistic skills!
