CAR (Commercial Association of Realtors of Oregon and SW Washington is providing a seminar on Green Leases at the MAC in Portland today. The event is being hosted by Ball Janik LLP. The following is taken from the CAR website on the seminar:
First, the "green" buildings were the buzz. Now, the buzz is moving to include "green" leases. Now that green leasing is beginning to go mainstream, the Commercial Association of Realtors is putting on education program to help explain:
1. What is a Green Lease?
2. What can Landlords do to existing buildings to attract tenants with a Green Lease?
3. How to help tenants seeking new space do so with a Green Lease
4. Learn some of the possible traps and challenges with a Green Lease
The green leases of today will be evolving as changes are made in the design and development front to aggressively advance the performance criteria for new buildings in Portland and Oregon to maintain a position of world leadership. These buildings are challenging conventional workplace cultures in ways that are highly aspirational, forcing green leases to also respond to an escalating list of challenges. One such building is the Oregon Sustainability Center, the first large scale commercial office tower in the world to respond to the "Living Building Challenge". GBD Architects will describe the project and the Living Building Challenge as a glimpse what's in store for the near term future of commercial buildings and what green leases of the future may look like.
