The North Carolina Turnpike Authority has posted a Google Maps flyover representation of the Southeast Connector, also known as "I-540." It is a nice use of Google Mapping. Looks like they project Phase 1 to open to traffic in about 9 years.
Here are links to the video in Windows Media format.
Low Quality Version, will load better if you do not have good broadband service.

As the Turnpike Authority says, "Please note, these alignments are conceptual and have not been officially selected for the project."
They indicate that the corridor is very preliminary and not cast in stone, as it was created without detailed environmental study, but this corridor study is a "must see" for anyone considering purchase in that area of Wake County, North Carolina.
If you are considering buying a home in South Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Garner, Southeast Raleigh, or included unincorporated areas of Wake County, the flyover is entertaining and informative.
