How I Will Remember the  Baltimore Blizzard of 2010

Snowbound families. Clogged roads. Icy sidewalks. Cabin fever. They are all part of The Blizzard of 2010 in the Baltimore/Washington area. The snow's not going anywhere soon, there will be more stories of kids missing school and state budgets destroyed by the cost of cleanup.

But that's not what I will remember when the summer heat and humidity return. I will recall the entertainment in my front yard as the acrobatic squirrels leapt from feeder to feeder, cleaning me out of seeds…again.

This is  How I Will Remember the  Baltimore Blizzard of 2010

I'll remember the thrill of digging my driveway and  finding buried treasure in the snow – the newspaper! The sound of the most popular man around as he worked his little bobcat up and down the street.

The beauty of a redheaded woodpecker having a snack.

And the photogenic cardinals – Mr. and Mrs. – posing against the bare branches stacked with snow.

With technology, of course, I kept on working, listing, and selling. But a record-breaking snow like this deserves time to enjoy its beauty and the reminder of how much entertainment we can find by just taking the time to stop and watch Mother Nature's show.

Margaret, I found myself thinking of you the other day and hoping you were well.  I love your pictures!  That you were able to capture the squirrely creature being sneaky speaks of your skills with the camera.  Great job!

My family remembers a squirrel that entertained us a few years back in the Orlando area.  It waltzed all over the screened enclosure for a peanut.  We eventually were able to coax it in but then had the chore of coaxing him back out.  DUH!  It was very entertaining.

Margaret, great photos, I love watching the little critters against the snow! And you were so lucky to be so busy during the storm, way to go!

What I am REALLY wondering is.... will there be an increase in births 9 mos from now?

I'm just sayin....

Margaret, I love the photos of the birds....I will remember the Winter of 2010 and my dog Zeke, rolling in the snow, eating icecicles and having a blast in his first snow.

Margaret - Your pictures are beautiful.  Thank you for reminding me just how beautful fresh fallen snow really is.   The striking difference between the cardinal and the snow is amazing!

I know about the acrobatics of squirrels.  My dogs have a regular routine of chasing the squirrels (they never catch them because they can't climb trees!) and know which trees they hide in.  The squirrels tease them; it's quite a game.

I'm surprised the squirrels left your birds anything to eat.

Always nice to take time to enjoy the beauty within. We have been bird watching as well and finally the deer found their way through the deep snow and drifts to grab a snack we left for them. It is certainly a treat we need to stop and enjoy more of.

Maggie, That critter was a challenge. Was so excited to catch the actual leap!

Andrea, Hopefully you will keep track of the birth rate in November.

Lola, Thanks for having such a good group to share with!

Rebecca, I saw Zeke eating icicles.

Elyse, I have been trying for quite some time to get that action shot!!

Martha, Bet the deer make some good photo subjects.

Fred, Having a camera ready is so much fun.

Margaret - looks like the critters are enjoying the snow more than you did. Hopefully it won't be too long before you see the bare ground again! I love these winter shots...but it does NOT make me miss the snow.

Glad you survived the snow and captured such beautiful photos.  The birds are here in NH too so I think spring is not too far away.

Joan, Love seeing you back in the Rain.

Cheryl, I have a wonderful friend who says she is coming back as a squirrel...and thinks of them as family.

Just beautiful, Margaret.  My mother has a constant battle with the squirrels eating the bird seed in her Baltimore back yard.  Thanks to technology, I was able to enjoy the blizzard from a far!
