Golf Car Registration for Sun City West, Sun City Grand and Arizona

It's pretty great just to jump in the golf car and run up to the Cimarron Fitness Center, over to Desert Springs for a golf lesson, go visit friends or go over to the grocery store. Pretty nice to not have to fire up the car for those quick little jaunts around the community.

Golf cars are either really basic or can be custom made and even rebuilt. I have seen some pretty impressive golf cars. Some like hummers, vintage cars, street rods or with custom paint schemes. Some individuals are REALLY into their golf cars. Whatever your taste, there's a golf car for you.

If you are going to drive your golf car out on city roads and in Sun City West or Sun City Grand than you must have a license plate on it either from Arizona or wherever you register your other vehicles.

There are standard registration fees charged by the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division:

• Title: $4.00
• Registration: $8.25
• Air Quality: $1.50

There is also a Vehicle Licensing Tax which is based on the list price or current value of the golf car. This is a fee that varies.

Some other points to consider:

Insurance: If the car is registered in Arizona then you must have Arizona insurance coverage. If it's not registered here but is kept and used in Arizona you would still need to have it covered with your insurance for usage in Arizona.

Arizona Registration: To register the golf car in Arizona you must also have an Arizona Residential address. You don't have to have an Arizona Driver License.

Emissions Testing: If you have a gas golf car that is more than 5 years old you must have it emissions tested before registering the car.

Title: Normally if you purchase a NEW car, the dealer will take care of registering the golf car for you. If you purchase a USED car, then you would have to bring in the title that the owner signed over to you when registering the golf car.

Simply put, a golf car goes through the same registration process as a passenger vehicle. If you are going to drive it on city streets it must be registered and have a license plate.

One last item worth mentioning...

Sun City Grand golf courses prohibit gas golf cars. Sun City West allows gas golf cars at all courses with the exception of Corte Bella Golf Club.
