"...THE HAITI DISASTER OFFERS A LESSON TO US. AMERICANS HAVE LARGELY THE IDEAS THAT BUILT AN ECONOMY CAPABLE OF REACING OUT. OUR SCHOOLS NO LONGER TEACH THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDECE AND THE U.S. CONSTITUTION, MUCH LESS THE FREEDOM PHILOSOPHY THAT WENT INTO THEM. OUR RECENT HISTORY IS A HISTORY OF LURCHES LEFTWARD, INTO GREATER DEGREES OF COLLECTIVISM. IT IS FAIR TO SAY THAT AT LEAST SOME OF OUR PRESENT TECHNOLOGICAL PROWESS AND CAPACITY FOR GENEROSITY RESULTS FROM FORWARD MOMENTUM IN A CIVILIZATION THAT ONCE EMBRACED INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM AND STILL DISPLAYS SOME OF ITS FRUITS-BUT WHICH IS LIVING ON BORROWED TIME. MANY AMERICANS DEMAND ENTITLEMENTS (HEALTHCARE, ETC.) , BUT COULD NO MORE EXPLAIN WHERE REAL WEALTH COMES FROM THAN THE AVERAGE HAITIAN.
BOTH ITS HISTORY AND EVENTS OF THESE PAST WEEKS SHOW CLEARLY THAT THE COLLECTIVISM THAT DOMINATED THE HAITIAN OUTLOOK IS A PATH ONLY TO POVERTY AND DESTRUCTION. ONE OF THE REVELATIONS FOLLOWING THE DISASTER WAS THT SOME 225,000 HAITIAN CHILDREN SUBSISTED IN SLAVERY DUE TO POVERTY. THIS IS A TRAGEDY IN A NATION THAT GAINED INDEPENDENCE THROUGH A REBELLION AGAINST SLAVERY."
