I Felt Like I was in Grade School Today!

While sitting here in Ocean City, MD, reading Activerain blogs (and gathering great new information... thank you, The Lovely Wife!) the fire alarm went off!  Since I haven't heard an alarm since I was little (oops! not true!!!!  I taught school for 17 years and had regular practice drills!), I'm walked to the hall and asked " Are we doing a practice drill.... in this freezing weather?".  Apparently not!

We all grabbed our coats, purses and CELL PHONES and headed down the back stairwell ,which just happens to be by my office!  (Yes, I know we should have just left quickly, but there was no evidense of anything really happening and our "stuff" is right next to us!  We ALL grabbed our "stuff"!)

The Ocean City,MD fire department arrived immediately, opened their trusty building boxes, and searched the building.  What an organized group of men!  Each had a job and DID it and even brought the right tools!  Very impressive!

After about 30 minutes, we were allowed to re-enter the building.  It appears that the motor on our elevators malfunctioned and set the alarm off!  It must be repaired/replaced, but no damage was done to the building, nor to the occupants.

Moral of this tale:  Thank your firemen and get out quickly!

Well, Kathy, the alarm worked as intended, I guess. I don't think many of us would expect it to be "real" unless we'd experienced an event before. I'm sure I'd have grabbed my Blackberry and purse--maybe my laptop! Glad everything's OK for you.

Brought back memories.. I loved fire drills as a lazy student who never did his homework.... bells sound... yaaaa, bolt for the door and scatter the schoolwork
