Coffee, Tea & Me

Coffee, Tea & MeCoffee, Tea & Me.  Many of you know of my love affair with coffee.  Our courtship began when I was very young.  After sneaking a little sip from my mother's coffee cup,  I immediately became infatuated with Joe.

In my early 20's, Joe was my pick-me-up friend.  Every morning, we enjoyed our time together with a little cream but no sugar.  Before I knew it, Joe and I were seriously dating.  Our conversations were very stimulating and our time together was warm and exciting.  Some labeled us as 'friends with benefits,' but I knew that something bigger was brewing between us.

My 30's flew by and I barely noticed that I'd become addicted to Joe.  My day began and ended, in a ritualistic fashion, holding on to  Joe and needing more.  Life got more complicated and I found myself wondering if we were really meant for each other.

Along came my 40's and the daily grind was beginning to take its toll.  As with any relationship, things can get bitter after awhile.  I had been seeing Joe for over 20 years and I felt the perk in our relationship was starting to fizzle.  That's when I met Tea.  I felt a little guilty about two-timing Joe, but Tea was pretty wonderful and had so much to offer, I just couldn't resist.

It didn't take long for Joe to discover that I was sipping Tea.  Surprisingly, the two became friends and both agreed to share me.  I was delighted, as I couldn't bring myself to end it with Joe or Tea.  Now, I start my day with Joe and I end it with Tea.  It's the best of both worlds, and now Coffee, Tea & Me are one big happy family!

Mel,

What a lovely way to express your love of coffee and tea.  We do agree with you.  Coffee and chocolate go so well together, and I always add a little coffee or Kahlua (skip the vanilla) to anything I bake with coffee.  I think coffee brings out the chocolate flavor.  Tea makes me think of high tea at Claridge's in London, Chinese food, summer ice tea, and tea with English friends who believe a "cuppa" will cure whatever ails you.  Bottom line, they are both wonderful libations. A

Me too Wendy!  Enjoy a cup of joe ;)

Thanks Alexandra.  Truth be told, I started drinking coffee at the age of 10... something I would never have let my kids do... but it was a sweet moment that was shared between my mother and I.  Perhaps that's why I love coffee so much... it reminds me of her.  I started drinking tea just a few years ago for health benefits.... and now I love it too ;)

when I recently had surgery and went a few days without coffee, I found when I tried it again my love affair with it was over.  I had replaced it with hot tea.

Surprisingly I have never been a coffee lover.  Perhaps it was because my mom's could eat the tarnish off the silver it was so strong.  A cup of tea on a cold day will hit the spot.

Ahhhh Mel, one of my favorite topics! What can I say, I am German and we all have Joe in our lives! Early AM, middle AM, early afternoon, middle afternoon ... and a cup of Tea before bed time. Perfect.

Ahhh Cindy... you just gave me a good idea for polishing my silver!

Yahoo, me too Andrea!  I'm a sucker for Joe all day long... but tea is my nighttime friend.

Funny Charles... you've been reading my blog, haven't you!

Me neither David... I would have some serious withdrawals if I gave up my beloved Joe ;)

Mel - I'm a huge fan of coffee too and drink so much I have to drink half decaf or I'd never sleep. My favorite is going shopping with my sister and we end our shopping spree with a grande cappuccino at Starbucks - it's a ritual we both love. When we go visit Gayle I'll bring a whole bunch of different flavors just for you!

Mel- I will have to say I'm a two-timer.  I do love my coffee, but sneak in the requisite 2 cups of tea a day. Although, I love my iced tea!

Mel, This is just too darn precious.  I love the way you write.  I limit myself to Joe in the am.  I "do" tea whenever I please. It's usually green, organic, hot or cold, and Joe does not care.

*suggested* because of the wit and wisdom of my friend who wrote an absolutely adorable and enjoyable post.  I hope tea is decaf ~ much friendlier :)  Darling! (yes, you are :) )

I must say that I don't do much to spoil myself, but 2 years ago, I went to Jamaica and discovered JABLUM that is Jamacian Blue Mountain Coffed and even at $23 lb I was willing to import it every since.

but then the weirdest opportunity happened, and I have another business, a Scuba business, and a small scuba dealer needs to order from me 4 times per year, so we started doing our the coffee the way of hundreds of years ago, we TRADE for it.

And now, I get to enjoy the worlds finest coffee and for the worlds finest price, even trade.

Now that makes for a world class cup of joe each morning.

Can't wait to see ya at Fishhawk Lake Kris... there will be plenty of Joe to go around ;)

Kathy ~ You two-timer you ;)  I love tea too... hot or cold!

Joe is so amenable... isn't he Kathleen!  Funny, I 'do' green organic tea too!

Well thank you Mimi... I had a little fun with this... a bit over the top, I know, but fun nonetheless!

Hey Kevin ~ I've vacationed in Jamaica and I love Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee!  And I like the way you trade your services for a cup of world class Joe ;)

What a fun post to begin the day Mel.   I too must have my Joe AKA Pinon brew to get me jump started.  My wife does have me down from 10 to 6 cups and she's on a mission to get me back on decaf.  I like decaf tea but it seems I just must have that jump start in the mornings to get things on a roll.

Glad you liked it John.  Your wife is a smart woman... hang onto her ;)
