The Rogue Creamery - Central Point Oregon. The Rogue Creamery in Central Point Oregon is an artisan cheese company, with people dedicated to sustainability and the art and tradition of making the world's finest handmade cheese.
This mom and pop cheese factory opened in Southern Oregon during the Great Depression of the 1930's. It's original owners, Tom & Zolita Vella, came to Southern Oregon from Sonoma. California. They immediately began making their chedder and cottage cheese.
The Rogue Creamery still stands today as it did in 1935. Cheddar Cheese was the Creamery's main product, until, in the 1950's Tom Vella traveled to Europe to bring back the Blue Cheese cultures, that make the award winning Blue Cheese the Rogue Creamery is famous for.
Ig Vella, Tom Vella's son, grew up in the Artisan Cheesemaking business and is known throughout the industry as the "Godfather" of cheesemaking. The Vella Family owned the The Rogue Creamery until 2002, when the current owners, David Gremmels & Cary Bryant stumbled upon the little Creamery. Ig was getting ready to shut it down forever, David & Cary convinced Ig that they could carry on the tradition. Ig Vella is still the master Cheesemaker & mentor for The Rogue Creamery in Central Point, Oregon.
