Febreze the IPhone and Staging.

By
Home Stager with Spaces Refined Inc.

Is there a common denominator?  Febreze and an IPhone....is this all it will take?

In this ever changing world. We are constantly introduced to tools that could only assist with successful marketing.

The Febreze commercial. Realtor is explaining how she uses the product to "prep her listings for sale". Huh?  Granted, odors are a huge turn off to prospective buyers. Amongst other areas we uncover during our initial consultations. Dear Fabreze I do love your product. Truly, it takes more than a few sprays to prepare a property for sale.

On to the emerging Real Estate IPhone application. Layout a room of furnishings with provided floor plan. Giving the buyer an idea of how the room will look furnished. Could a prospective buyer really get true scale from a palm sized micro view? Great concept. Though, if the buyer can not envision the furnished, vacant or cluttered space they are standing in. Chances are....the micro palm sized room view will not do much more. Let's face it, buyers only see what is in front of them. Not how it "could be". I will welcome this application as a tool in my business. Can only work as a plus in preparing for a job.

Staging is so much more than odor control, virtual staging and drop and plop arrangement of furniture and accessories. It takes a true Staging professional to implement a proper plan as the home goes to market and is presented to your prospective buyers.

Great post! These types of gimicks really are what HURTS staging. Everyone sees these types of things and then beleives it's true and SIMPLE when it's anything but SIMPLE. I love your "plop and drop" comment - I may be using that in the very near future.

I personally have a bad reaction to Febreze.  It is really offensive to me and I wouldn't recommend any client use it.  Most use too much and it can be overwhelming.  It makes people wonder what they are trying to cover up.

THANK YOU, someone finally said it.  Those that don't really understand staging and the theories and purpose think that it's about imagination and stuff...you are so right, it's so much more, and it's the subtlties that you can't get in a bottle or in a palm.  Well said.

Thank you all! Just a few simple points.

As we know....Staging is much more than the tools we use. It does not happen by the way of smoke and mirrors. ;-)

Gina,

Great post...You are so right Staging is so much more than "Drop and Plop arrangement" or "Cookie cutter Staging".  I have been told when I talk about Home Staging that all Stagers do is throw a few sticks of furniture in a home and charge $$$$.

Each home we Stage is customized to the type of home, the area the home is in and the potential buyer.  There is so much planning and preparing that goes into each home.  We as home stagers realize what goes into each project...there are still a few that need to be educated.

Which iphone application are you talking about if I may ask, was it (iLayout) or (Home Interior Layout)?
