Wordless Wednesday - Curb Appeal Has Nothing to Do With Age

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives

Over the past 34 years as real estate brokers in Northern Virginia my husband and I have seen more than our fair share of cosmetically and materially  challenged homes. We have listed them for sellers and we have sold them to buyers. Of course, in each instance the list price and final price was considerably less than normal due to the condition of the property.

The 18th century home below is maintained by Prince William County and the 19th century church is maintained by the still existent congregation. Even so, there are private residences as old that are beautifully maintained.

We have a difficult time understanding why someone would allow property to deteriorate as much as they do

Karen, I used to work in the Annapolis area and lived on the Eastern Shore and there would be many of the homes depicted in the first photo you posted. I was always longing for the owner to spiff them up  bringing them back to their former glory.

Hi Karen, Wonderful! I think we are all probably in agreement that the 18th Century ( built with true pride and workmanship) is outstanding. I think your other point is also shared by most of us the industry. That people allow things to deteriorate as though one day magically these homes will just suddenly we restored. But perhaps they don't even care that much. It is sad to see so many of these today. Thankfully many others look for them to restore the life. And they many times do a better job than the original owners would have in maintaining it. But is sad  how they dot the landscape awaiting for the love to return along with the care and resources they rightfully deserve.
