Thomas Edison was a great inventor and solved many of society's biggest problems during his lifetime. The key to his success was hard work, diligence and never giving up. This quote sums it up best,
"If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward...."
Which brings me to Real Estate...
Everyone is complaining about their problems but they remain unsolved! OK, not everyone but enough Real Estate professionals to inspire this blog. It's easy to feel helpless in the face of a problem, and feel the need to share it with those around you. However, this is not very productive. At the root of every problem, is a source of inefficiency, and/or discouragement. These can be huge drains on the resources of your business, especially if you give up and let the problem persist. Some of my (least) favorite excuses to ignore a problem are:
- I don't know
- I tried once, but I couldn't figure it out
- I know how to work around it
- It's too complicated
- I do it the old-fashioned way
My response?
- Then find out
- Try again, learn how to do it right. If you have to, ask someone to show you.
- Even though you know a work-around, it could take you 2, 3, 10 times as long. How valuable is your time??
- If this comes up often, it may be an indication that you are spending time on the wrong tasks. It is possible that you need to delegate to someone who specializes in this area.
- Old-fashioned doesn't cut it in Real Estate unless you are talking about Historic Landmarks
I know that it's never easy to solve a problem but the key is to have a positive attitude and to keep moving forward. At Realt-eTransAct we continually give our clients the assistance and training they need to overcome major problems in their business. With so many Realtors out there, it is vital to differentiate yourself and be a problem-solver.
