A Complaint Free World! I Love the Sound of That!!!
Love the concept. I tried before and failed miserably. I must try again! Thanks, Amy.
A Complaint Free World! I Love the Sound of That!
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a seminar with Speaker Will Bowen, Author of "A Complaint Free World".
A good friend of mine, Herb Pearson, has been sending me emails and invitations reminding me of this event for weeks. I started the Complaint Free Challenge several months ago, so I committed to go and was really looking forward to attending. This is a challenge I would like to finish.
Then, on Saturday, in the process of cutting and removing the four trees that fell during our recent & rare snow storm, I aggravated my spondylolisthesis! Can't feel my left leg, sharp pains down my back and I considered not going to the event even though I had committed. I complained (I know, I know) for 2 hours prior to the event that I felt obligated to go, but my back hurts, blah, blah, blah... I'll just take a muscle relaxer, and do it for Herb Pearson!
Boy, am I glad I toughened up and went. It was amazing! Will Bowen is an exceptional speaker, funny, entertaining and motivational. I couldn't wait to get home and share what I had learned with everyone I know.
As Will Bowen defines, a complaint is - a negative and energetic statement that focuses on the situation at hand and not on what you want the situation to be. Will also said that It is not complaining if you speak the facts to the people that can actually do something to fix the situation. So why do we all go home and complain about work to our spouses or our best friend. What do we expect them to do about it?
Complaining effects our mental, physical and emotional health. If that is the case, Why do we complain? I for one want to healthy in every way!
The deal is, You have to wear a fashionable purple bracelet. Every time you complain, you
switch the bracelet to the other arm. Every time you switch the bracelet, you start over at day one. The goal is to go 21 days without complaining because after 21 days, you've created habit...a much more positive habit.
A Tip from me - even tho' I haven't completed the challenge, I have made it to 18 days, and it has made a huge difference in the way I feel and speak! I started over yesterday (complaining about my back...). For me, it's about the way you say what you have to say. There is nothing wrong with saying it's cold outside...FACT! But if you start in a whiny voice, It's so freakin' cold outside, wha, wha, wha...Complaining. My parents took a trip to Australia & New Zealand for one month last year. When they returned home and called, I almost said, "I hate it when you guys are gone", but instead, I said, "I love it when you're home". It's amazing how changing just a couple of words can turn a statement into a positive comment.
One more thing you should know about the challenge; If you complain or point out that someone else is complaining, That's considered a complaint!
So, if you are ready to give up complaining, gossiping and whining, Start the Challenge today. Visit their website at www.acomplaintfreeworld.org and request your purple bracelet, You'll be glad you did! And if you know someone else who could benefit from this wonderful challenge, email the website to them. We all know people who constantly complain, whether in person, in a blog or a comment, on their facebook profile, etc!
