When I first moved to Sarasota, I of course enlisted the help of a local Realtor to assist me in finding a home. (I did not have a license as of yet) . I like to tell the story of how I told the Realtor how much I had to spend, and then added "I would love to have a view of the water, if possible".
And ten minutes later, when she stopped laughing, she said "You do mean a swimming pool, right?" :)
Ok, that is a slight exaggeration. But I was a bit disappointed to find out that the substantial sum which I had acquired from my home sale in New York was not enough to get me within 4 miles of the beach. That being said, I have an awesome home, and I love it...
But the recent market has caused some significant changes on the Keys. The very place where I stood, in awe, nearly a decade ago, when I decided this place HAD to be my home...is now accessible to virtually any price range.
Yes, you may have to fix it up. Yes, it may be a little small. But you can buy a condo within walking distance to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world starting at $150K. You can have a single family home starting at for $250K. And you can be in a direct beachfront complex for about $400K.
I know these prices may sound steep to other parts of the country. But for a resort beach town directly on the Gulf of Mexico, its unheard of.
If you have ever wanted a place at the beach, now may be the time to look again at Siesta Key. I promise, you too will be in awe.
