I’ve been skiing since age 10, skiing Winter Park since 1988 and I’m almost half-way to 100 years old! While I’ve “adjusted” my skiing style over the years, the biggest change for the good has put me back on the Bunny Slopes. Yeah……My knees can still handle the Bumps on Mary Jane, my True Love is still finding the untracked tree skiing and open steeps…but getting my 3 and 4 year old girls on the Slopes of Grand County, CO is my main objective and I’ve had to change my style.
This new adventure for me is best performed at Sol Vista Resort near Granby, CO. As a full time Winter Park resident, this is an amazing amenity to have in my back yard! The beginner area is perfect, parking is easy, and the cost just right – free for kids under 5 years old. The best part about Sol Vista is its almost impossible to lose your kids. All the slopes funnel into one main Base Lodge. The progression from “Magic Carpet” to Kids Specific chairlift, to the bigger kids/adult runs is about as perfect as you will find. My 4.5 year old Sarah, has progressed to the “big kids” lift and is in complete control of me at all times! Sol Vista does a great job with their employees being super friendly/helpful and their base facilities are big, clean and user friendly….which to my girls means, they serve very good Hot Chocolate in the restaurant and the cafeteria.
Next year we will tackle the runs at Winter Park, and will start another new adventure with confidence gained skiing the wonderful resort of Sol Vista. Thanks to Sol Vista for making one of my jobs as Dad a lot easier.
