Having a seller that can't part with their clutter is a tough sell.  I have a seller that has tons of stuff and can't part with any of it.  They want to keep it all!!! Its all good stuff, Right? Well its keeping people from feeling comfortable at the place and offers are not comming in. Can you believe they think its normal and nothing needs to be done. I keep thinking of Sanford and Son!!! Has anyone come up with a good way to handle people like this?

Eric, ask them to consider renting a storage facility if they want to keep the clutter.  There is two ways you own a home, one is to live in, the other is to sell.  You have to show them the difference.  Take them around to other homes in their price range and let them see the competition.  Hope this helps!

I give my sellers a sheet with items I will and won't do. One of them is I won't take a listing if the property is not marketable due to clutter. They either agree to remove the clutter (I offer to help them, doesn't bother me a bit) or I won't take the listing.

David's right! That is so painful to see. Their lives will change for the better once they get rid of all that....I bet they don't even realize what it's doing to them. Do they have the money to have an organizer come in and help them get it together? They will never sell that house if it looks like that. They definitely need to go on a house tour and see how they should be living and keeping their house clutter free.

Pamela is right. I would call in a professional because most of the time it's an emotional attachment to the clutter. Professionals know how to deal with it and push them to get rid of useless items. If you would, like I could recommend some professional organizers in your area.
