LOOKING FOR "LOVE" IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND!

Pets Wit Disabilities

Pets With Disabilities is currently looking for a special foster home for Pierce.

Pierce has done a pretty good job of learning the routine at the rescue, he'll come into his room and understands that he doesn't need to run away from all humans. He is SO sweet and is really looking for that person that can help him trust completely.  So - now they are looking for a foster home that can help Pierce progress in his confidence and trust.  Ideally, that foster home will have some experience working with and/or rehabbing semi-feral dogs. Pierce is housebroken, completely non-aggressive - just very shy.  He needs a place where people are around most of the time, the home is relatively quiet (not too busy or loud), at least one other very balanced dog, and patient guardians.  Pierce needs the time to first trust the other dog and then trust the humans won't push him too much and let him trust on his own time....  this could potentially be a 6-9 month foster arrangement.   Please contact Joyce for more information at petswithdisabilities@comcast.net if you think you can help Pierce.

Pierce

Pierce  a 3 year old Border collie mix, came to Pets With Disabilities recently.  Pierce was part of a legal case that finally got resolved this month.  This was the life that Pierce had for the past years.

(This was written by a volunteer at the local shelter in Pennsylvania)

"Pierce, along with the rest, have endured the worst nightmare you can imagine - 3 very long years having to stay in a crowded kennel. There were many days when their kennel was the last  to be cleaned because they were not being viewed by the public as their section was roped off due to the pending court case.   No beds/blankets/toys.  Days when in the heat and humidity of the summer,  and one water bowl was not enough for four dogs and they would go without water. The floors were continuously wet because of either humidity or rain from outside coming in - drains blocked.  Their food was thrown at them and always before they cleaned their kennel.  None of the shelter workers (before the new law in January 09 was passed that all shelter dogs have to have at least  a 15 minute walk a day) would walk these guys and it has been up to just a couple of very dedicated volunteers to keep them mentally and physically going."

Pierce

Now that Pierce is at Pets with Disabilities, they  are beginning to realize in just a short period of time, he does not know toys, beds, car rides, biscuits, carpeting, furniture, cats, stairs, linoleum, or food dishes- he has been fed from cardboard "hot dog holders" and has known only this horrible existence his entire life.  He doesn't know anything other than the horrid shelter that has been more of a prison than a safe haven since the day he was born.

Paddy was his name when he came to Pets with Disabilities, but they soon realized his eyes were so piercing, as if to say "Thank you,  I think I have finally landed safely!"

Beside Pierce's 4 club paws,  he will need time for his mind to reconnect with the world, a kind world. He will be able to relax at PWD and slowly begin to trust that people can be very caring and loving and ultimately trustworthy.   He has a very special person in mind - he is on a mission to rescue someone right back.

Their prayer will be that they find each other and that his time at Pets With Disabilities will create the doors to open for Pierce to find his forever home.

Thank you, Kyla Connors for supporting for Pierce's care.

Hi Carole,

Pierce is a handsome boy!  He has had a horrible beginning for his 1st 3 years of life, and now he is in good hands waiting for a happy ending.  Thank you for visiting & your good wishes!

I just hate reading these kinds of stories because they tear at me so. If I had Bill Gates' money, there would not be a dog or cat anywhere that needed love, affection, and a good home.

Poor guy, I hope he finds a good home.  Thank you for all of the postings and awareness you raise for animals in need in your area.  Kudos to you.

Hello Russel,

These type of stories tear at me too.  Pierce's story is an especially sad one.  I felt the need to post his story, hoping that a special person or family will read it and say, "Pierce is the dog for me!"  (or us)
