Wine Spectator has put out its list of 100 top rated wines. Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Reserve 2005 is the wine of the year.
I'm a little surprised. Quite honestly I never pay attention to the wall of old stand by wines.
Out of 100 wines named, this bottle was named #1 with 95 points for quality and price. I'm not sure what affect the new demand on this wine will have - possibly an increase from the $27 and maybe even will be hard to find on the shelves.
Blend
91% Cabernet Sauvignon
5% Merlot
4% Cabernet Franc
Here's a review:
"This powerful Cabernet Sauvignon delivers intense fruit aromas mingled with chocolate cherry and slight mint aromatics. Cocoa and black cherry flavors lead to a complex, perfectly balanced palate of wood and fruit flavors that cumulate on the lingering finish." Ray Einberger, Winemaker
I won't be looking for this bottle this weekend. I'm going to spend a quiet weekend in D.C. checking out the Lincoln exhibit at the American History Museum and then I'm going to The Phillips to see its current exhibition: Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction. I saw this exhibit years ago and it is truly breathtaking. If you are not familiar with this female artist of the 20th century, she is well known for her abstract watercolors and charcoals. Rather than present the true appearance of an entire object or scene, she is known for expressing her feelings in her art and magnifying a detail of a recognizable object.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
