So That's A Pummelo

By
Education & Training with Steve Hoffacker LLC

When I logged back in on Active Rain today, the word that I had to type was "pummelo." If you've ever seen that word and been asked to type it, this is what it is - a large grapefruit-like citrus. It is also sometimes spelled or referred to as pomelopommelo, or pamplemousse.

We have had them the size of volleyballs, and the rind is often over a ½" thick.

They are mainly a Far Eastern tree and fruit, but they can be found in Florida and California.

Apparently, many other citrus fruits are hybrids of this basic, original fruit.

I've never seen one and they do look HUGE!!  Maybe the AR sign in will take over the word-of-the-day calendar

Duane,

Ours are very pulpy and coarse. Not too much taste for their size. :)

Wallace,

So far, I have identified (without actually keeping a count) probably 50 words that are plants, flowers, or fruit that we grow in our yard. :)

Interesting. I have seen some strange words on AR but never thought to find out if they really were words! You have an inquiring mind!

Sometimes, I just recognize them because of what we grow. :)

Diane,

They are mostly just a big grapefruit but they are not sweet. :)
