Long Track Speed Skating Team Pursuit - Canada Gold - U.S. Silver!

Real Estate Agent

Canada is finally coming into its own with the Gold Medals!  Gold Medal #13!  The Canadian men's long-track speed skating team pursuit - brought home the gold medal and the fifth medal in long-track speed skating in these 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Canadia's skaters Mathieu Giroux, Lucas Makowsky, and Denny Morrison established back-to-back Olympic records in eliminating Italy and Norway on their way to the Finals between Canada and the U.S. once again...in tightly aligned teams of three, drafting one another like cyclists - brought this last race to a spectacular finish!

Canada's Men's pursuit team introduced a new technique to the sport when the second and third skaters gently tapped the member in front of him on the butt while on straightaways, helping the often tired leader maintain his speed with the boost from behind.  Apparently Coach Marcel Lacroix has been working on the concept for three years and only allowed Morrison of Fort St. John, B.C., Lucas Makowsky of Regina and Mathieu Giroux of Montreal to pull it out during the Winter Games so other teams wouldn't have time to copy it.

Good call.

Kudo's to the U.S.'s  Morrison for skating with a bad hip - and obviously in some pain AND for winning his fifth Olympic Medal tieing Eric Hieden!

The Netherlands took the Bronze!

What a great shot! It's amazing when you think of how many YEARS of non-stop training goes into just qualifying for the Olympics. Very few people have that kind of drive, to keep going year-after-year.

Liz - While I was rooting for the USA Team, Canada squeeked by them to win that coveted Gold medal in one of the best speed skating races I've seen at the Olympic Games.  Canada is coming on strong with all of their Gold medal wins!
