How Do I Get Earthquake Insurance on My San Diego Home?

Did you know that most homeowners insurance policies do not include earthquake insurance, even in earthquake prone San Diego? Adding earthquake insurance to your homeowner policy is typically optional and can often be quite costly.

As a result, only about 12% of California homeowners have earthquake insurance according to the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) . This is down from the 30% of California homeowners that had coverage in 1996.

I would bet that type of insurance would be very expensive in your area.  Similar to Hurricane insurance in Florida.

I never thought about it that much, but we did have a 3.4 magnitude quake in the Chicago area a few weeks ago.
