Real Estate Agent with Ebby Halliday, REALTORS

Just today I was reading blogs posted by others.  In the three blogs that I read, there were typographical errors and misspelled words in all of them!  There wasn't one without errors.  Now imagine that instead of sending a message to those of us who read blogs, you were sending that message to a potential client or someone else of importance to your business.  What is his/her first impression?   Mine, when I'm reading documents with lots of mistakes is that the person either didn't care or didn't want to take the time to correct the errors.  "Sloppy" and "unprofessional" come to mind.  In the company where I work, referrals from relocation companies come our way often.  Some agents, not taking the time to be careful in their written work, have lost the business because the relocaton counselor does not want to work with someone who isn't paying attention to the details. When I receive an email from someone soliciting my business (e.g., a title company or a lender), if there are misspelled words, I instantly dismiss that email (read "delete"), because it is incredibly unprofessional.  We're in a business where the devil is in the details; we really should pay more attention to them. Maybe you think I'm being too harsh, but first impressions do matter and sometimes, especially when it's in writing, there really is no way to make a graceful recovery.

Meredith, I am a stickler for catching misspelled words but do not let that keep from being inspired with an exceptionally good story or important message from people here in the Rain. I have reminded people in the business when something was misspelled, it's their choice to change it, or not. Now, if an advertising agency was wanting my business and misspelled their words, that's a different story...indeed!
