I bought my French Valley home (in the city of Winchester, CA) in April of 2005 with no thought of the area's history or personality. It was a good buy (relatively speaking) and was still close to Temecula and Murrieta where I also list and sell homes. I've recently been digging around trying to figure out why it was called French Valley and where all the street names came from. I'm sure all my neighbors are equally blind to the history of this area since nearly all of them moved here in the last 10 years after finding it was a little less expensive than Temecula and Murrieta but still very close to everything.
One of the best sources of information I found was a great article written by John Hunneman for the North County Times. You can see the article by clicking here. (I'm still trying to get in touch with Annie Borel to see if I can get a copy of the Calendar she put together! I'll be sure to let you know what I find out from her.)
After living here myself for nearly 5 years and helping clients buy and sell houses here - it's great to finally know where the Auld, Borel, Pourroy (among others) and French Valley names come from. I'm hoping to feel more connected to what has been for me a great place to work and raise a family.
