Dutchess County residents do you have flood insurance?

Do you have flood insurance? Today finally it stopped snowing so I ventured out to the store to replenishFlood insurance my cupboards.  Driving along I saw evidence of melting snow, and standing water now in areas I have not noticed before.

Since I am a Realtor immediately I started thinking about flooded basements.  Then I wondered how many  have flood insurance, and how costly it will be for those without coverage.

The mistake many makes is in thinking that flood just don't happen in their area, the truth is floods can happen anywhere, lots of snow having no place to go or a clogged drain pipe is all it takes.

So take a look at a few  flood scenarios and if you don't have flood coverage you might be convinced to do so and protect one of your most valuable assets.

Based on where you live you might want to see if you qualify for the National Flood Insurance.

Jennifer:  These days, with the crazy weather, flood insurance would be a great thing to have.  Trouble is, nobody thinks of it until it's too late.  Great reminder for your readers !

There are many homes in my area that are getting water due to all the snow and rain at the same time. It is never fun dealing with water issues!

We have a few areas here that qualify for flood insurance. A good reminder to at least check to see IF you need it.

JaneAnne this is one of those that is easy to overlook but can be so costly.

Robert I suppose you are talking about the National Flood Insurance but even outside of those areas floods can occur.

Jennifer... this is a topic that we are encountering more and more. Snow melting and water seepage, yikes, and to think in our area it is really cheap for most homes, no reason not to get it.

Jennifer - My thought exactly right now.  It's going to become a bigger mess as the days go by and the temperatures get warmer.  Now may be a good time to revisit some of our buyer deals that are pending sales.

Jennifer it is a great idea to have Flood Insurance if you are in an area that is prone to flooding.  In fact if you are doing a loan and are in a Flood Plain, we can't do the loan unless you take out Flood Insurance.  But Flood Insurance can be very costly, but not as costly that a flood can cause.
