30 Days of Blogging, Accountability and more

Every year I review my business as we all should and every year I notice certain ebbs and flows that I allowed myself to get into.  When business is low, I tend to blog and yes I still cold call and work the internet leads that come in.  When business is great (like right now) I tend to leave everything but the calls alone but rarely do I blog.

Last year, I had an accountability "test,"  this year I don't plan to stick to a "15 Min" increment.  My plan is more to check on my current task at least once an hour and make sure I'm on point.  It'll be difficult to maintain this for one month but my goals from this task are:

  1. Blog once a day (except on Sat/Sun)
  2. Limit my time on e-mail to 2 hrs or less a day (as in having it open)
  3. Complete my big "rock" tasks before Lunch
  4. Limit my conversations on the phone where I'm the culprit of rambling on

My hope is to develop good habits and I am struggling this past month but have done a few new things in my routine which helps.

  • When I wake up, I read the Bible first with no computer interaction
  • I then read at least 10 pages from a leadership type book, Right now it's the 5 Dysfunctions of a Team.

My goal is to end up working more in my purpose and impacting more people's live through the Real Estate and less time on the things that suck energy out of my day (wasting time answering e-mails).

Thanks for reading, would love your suggestions on blog topics, routines, ect.

real estate is filled with things that suck energy out of your day.....the business itself can do that.....time management is important and working smarter is a great goal.

I don't engage in photo/joke e-mail round robins...I opt out or don't pass on; I ALWAYS have some work with me while I wait to show rental properties; and I blog and comment on AR DAILY!!! Even as a property manager, I work half day Sat AM and Sunday AM so not participating on the weekends has never occurred to me.

I had an accountability "test"- As most of us work as individual contractor/small business owner, we need to find ways to hold ourselves accountable to reach goals. The best way I found is to try to quantify and document those goals and milestones and bring them to light.

I have found if I make my "to do" list out the night before and then between calls and emails work on completing it I have a way better chance of getting things done. AR is my daily mind exercise.

I think working on this daily exercise is important. I begin each day with my Long-Term goals in mnd. To see what I have to do daily to achieve them (bit by bit). Then, I make sure I do them along with my daily tasks. Otherwise, I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cut off, just constantly putting out fires. Before you know it, the day ended.

Joshua,

Having a focus and following is of utmost importance to me. I also tend to work of "To Do" lists. What to blog on is an interesting question because I have not been able to totally figure it out. Maybe you could write an inspirational piece from your Bible reading/book reading each morning. Also write on what happens in your business experience. I like to flip homes, so that is what some of my blogs are on over the course of time. I am just beginning the regular blog writing and I am also looking for ideas. Good luck to you.

If you keep your email open only two hours a day, you will miss many opportunities. Turning off your email is as bad as turning off your phone. Best wishes for great success.

Joshua, love this list! Especially "when I wake up, read the Bible first with no computer interaction." Problem is, I've started reading Bible Gateway...on the computer! Probably need to go back to my Bible on paper. The computer is too tempting and distracting.
