Moose Monday - Bull Moose in the Backyard - Red Lodge, Montana

Weren't the inflatable giant flying moose interesting last night at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies?  A big round of applause to all the athletes of the word that participated and made these games a success. It was nice to see them relaxed and enjoying the closing ceremonies with most of them wearing foam moose antlers.

After weeks of posting objects depicting moose on Moose Monday, it is time to post the real thing!

In the following photo is a bull moose that was camera shy but I managed to capture a photo of him before he ran out and disappeared in the background.

Hi Gerry - Good catch!  The only moose (meese? LOL) I've ever seen in person were one at Waterton Lakes that came up out of the water right by our boat and a young one that marched right down the main street in Banff when I was there on a ski trip.  Neither time was I able to get a photo - phooey!

Hi Gerry - It's so wonderful to see a real moose again.

I didn't know that people had a stereotype of Canada being a land of flying moose until I saw the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics.  I don't recall seeing an igloo but they seemed to have a large number of the stereotypes, eh (okay, except for a giant "EH?").

Jenny - There have been numerous comments and posts about the proxy errors and I've even seen posts where people are planning to reduce their reliance on ActiveRain.  It requires more hardware as well as changes to their backend programming to handle all of the activity.

Morning Gerry, you're a brave soul to get that close to the moose. Kudos to you for catching him before he tore off. I usually end up with a photo of only a nature background when trying to catch birds...just not fast enough. On second thought I'm not quiet enough!

But I won't give up :)

Leave it to the Canadians to display the big inflatable beavers at the closing ceremony of the Vancouver winter Olympic games!   :)

Susan,

Perhaps the third time you see a moose will be a charm and the time that you will be able to capture one with your camera.  Now, if you captured one or two moose swimming in a lake and share it with us on  AR, that would without a doubt end up being featured at Moose Monday.

I am glad you enjoyed this real moose on Moose Monday!

It was a memorable closing ceremony to the 2012 winter Olympics and proved that the Canadians do have a great sense of humor and showing off all the stereotypes (I did not know about the land of the flying moose either but that was a good clue for me to post a real moose the following day on Moose Monday).  :)

Thank you for the chuckle you put on my face after reading your comment.   I do not merit any mention of bravery.  My camera's powerful zoom lens allowed me to take this photo of the moose from my back yard without any fear for my safety.   I was not as close as you may think by looking at the photo.  I would say I was more than 150 feet away from it and if it was running in any other direction than away from me, I would not be standing there and looking through my camera's lens.

Well thanks for clarifying that Gerry as I wipe a sweat bead off my forehead. I know the next piece of equipment I will invest in is a zoom! Lets see my B-Day isn't till till Dec. so maybe a it would make a fine St. Patrick's day gift, LOL!
