If We Could Only Re-elect Thomas Jefferson

If We Could Only Re-elect Thomas JeffersonOur government is experiencing so much partisanship that I wonder if they will be able to get anything done.

We are not able to work on our economic recovery while our elected officials keep posturing for control like roosters in a barnyard.

Like Thomas Jefferson said, "I own that I am not a friend to a very energetic government.  It is always oppressive."

Jefferson also said, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

I must quote Jefferson one more time.  He said, "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

CNN quoted Jefferson this week also when he said, "God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion."

He went on to explain that to preserve liberties, the people must preserve the spirit of resistance.  Maybe we need to stop electing monarchs and start electing people to serve our interests.

Gary,

Lucky am I to live in the shadow of Mr. Jefferson and because his beloved Monticello is seen at least once a day I am continuously reminded of his genius.

Gary - Jefferson appeared to understand the potential for government to get out of control, a fact that sometimes get lost as we look to government for more benefits.

I fear that we're so divided as a country that some side or other would criticize him, too.

Gary...too bad those in power-suits don't understand this any more; and I do believe that some in years past did grasp that tenet of life. Came across one of his quotes not so long ago:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies". Wow talk about prophetic!
I only hope that many in the great nation will show their agreement with the founding Fathers and vote the "bums" out regardless of their political party affiliation--each side has those who have out-lived their political usefulness.  Our 2 Senators are in that category this year.
Thanks for standing tall & willing to dodge the tomatoes.
