I recently made an inquiry of a fellow agent with regard to an offer that was submitted on one of my listings. The offer was made in the name of a corporation. But, the address to the corporation was left blank. So, I reached out and asked if she could provide the address of the corporation on the contract.
Now, I didn't really think this was an offensive question, but based on the response I received, it must have been. The agent informed me that: 1) she has been licensed since 1988 and 2) the corporation was located "somewhere in America" and that she had never had any problems before. Finally, she told me that "this is just the way I was raised in real estate."
HUH???
It seems to me that agents that have been licensed for a really long time, tend to fall back on their years of being a licensee for various reasons. Granted, I too intend to hang on to my license for the forseeable future and I can't wait to be able to brag about my two decades of experience. Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly believe that I can and should be able to learn from other agents with that breadth of knowledge.
But, here is the kicker - we can ALL stand to learn from each other, totally regardless of the number of years we have been in the business. Each transaction is different and there are different take-away points to each deal. The beauty of this industry, is that we all have certain rules we must follow, but we all have different and unique approaches. As much as some of us would like to think so, NONE of us has "seen it all and heard it all."
There is not a day that goes by that I learn something new with regard to this profession....and I really wouldn't have it any other way. I truly meant no harm to the Buyer's agent and I was somewhat taken aback by her response, to say the least. I am not an attorney, but I could have sworn that an address is required in order to incorporate...
Correct me if I am wrong, but each time I hear someone talk about how long they have been doing something a certain way, I tend to think that that person knows there are better, more efficient ways to carry out the task. But, they will not try anything new because what they have been doing has worked well in the past... What are your thoughts?
