How are you doing in your 2010 success?

Original content by Sam Miller

My real estate career started when I was 18 years old and right out of high school.  While I was at a National Association of Realtors annual conference in Dallas, Texas my grandmother strongly encouraged me to attend the Howard Brinton Superstar Realtor Panel.  After some convincing and negotiating on her part I did attend that session and looking back on my career it is without a doubt the pivotal shift in my career and more importantly it changed the course of my life.  Before that day I might have believed that Howard Brinton, Ralph Roberts and I were similar because we were all in the real estate business.  After attending that session I realized that I was not on the same level as Howard and Ralph because they both possessed a level of knowledge and experience that I had not learned or obtained.

I immediately subscribed to the Howard Brinton Star of the Month Interview Series.  This tape series enabled me to listen and learn from the top real estate professionals in America and Canada.  What made these interviews so great was that Howard Brinton was in the drivers seat leading the interview and helping these top agents share what made them so successful.  These monthly real estate superstar interview tapes taught me about their systems, the software they were using, their computer technology, I learned about prelisting packages, what to ask during a prelisting interview and and the list goes one.  I began following following the careers of these top agents, I subscribed to their local newspapers so I could see the advertising they were doing and I tried my best to implement as many of their ideas (with their permission) as I possible could.  I read a saying in one of Ken Blanchand's books where he writes that "None of us is as smart as all of us".  I believe that Blanchard's quote is very fitting when it comes to real estate because none of us know or have as much experience as all of us.  We can all learn from each other, from other top agents and educators who possess extensive real estate knowledge and transaction experience.

My topic is titled "Mentoring Your Way To Sucess in 2010" and I truly believe mentoring is the fastest way to growing your business.  For those of you who are experiencing difficulty in your business I believe mentoring could be the step you need for survival in the real estate industry.  When you are mentoring you no longer have to focus on creating the business wheel because your mentor already has the wheel created and their wheel is spinning full speed ahead.  Your goal when mentoring should be to glean what your mentor does and what has made them successful, study those traits, learn, adapt and implement many of their systems and skills into your business and you will be headed on the fast track to increased success far quicker than if you were attempting to grow your business on your own.

I created a photo grouping below of a few of my real estate mentors that I have followed through the years who have genuinely helped me take my business and real estate sales production to the next level.
