The mayor of Honolulu announced today that he was going to propose a small hike in the Property Tax Rate for Non-Owner Occupants. The rate for owner occupants is $3.42 per $1,000 in value for residential properties on Oahu. The hike is slight and will not affect the current rate for owner occupants.
This means that if your home is worth $100,000, your annual property tax would be $342, assuming you don't have any exemptions for the value, which you would, being an owner occupant. These exemption increase as the owner gets older.
The main thing to remember here is that Honolulu has some of the Least Expensive Property Taxes in the country.
