Massachusetts Bill To Prevent Genital Mutilation ~ This Is Not A Joke!

By

Just when you think you have heard it all - here we go.

A bill has been introduced in Mass to ban the circumcision of boys under the age of 18.  It takes the right away from the parents to either accept or reject circumcision for their child.

It is entitled “Massachusetts State Prohibition of Genital Mutilation Act" and referred to as An Act relative to the civil rights of certain medical procedures. Read Bill Here

One spokes person cited the bill was to protect the civil rights of defenseless children.  Really that is laughable!

  • How about the rights of those with a beating heart that are being sucked daily from the mothers womb?  How about the child born alive as a result of a botched abortion, stuffed in a plastic bag to die?
  • What a bunch of hypocrites.

There is no provision in the law to allow the Jewish tradition of circumcision to continue.  Isn't that a violation of Religious freedom?

According to the report I heard there will be fines and jail time attached to violating this bill.

Will women be forced to go to nearby states to deliver their children? Guess they will be prohibited from that choice since Mass has a State health care plan.

Bonnie - This will just create a black market for circumcisions. Thank you for pointing how they kill millions of babies every year but circumsisions need to be stopped. It reminds me of PETA in Germany where they wanted to kill, yes kill a polar bear cub because they didnt want raised in a Zoo.

Wallace - Wow! I had no idea people in my state were eating placenta. Just a matter of time before its a menu in San Fran.

There are medical reasons why this is done but they could protect a woman from killing her baby first.

As a resident of the Commonwealth, there is absolutely no chance that this nonsensical piece of legislation will ever get to the House.  Firstly, it is against the Constitution of the Commonwealth to pass any such legislation because of the separation between church and state, and also because it is illegal to discriminate based on a religious right (yes, Abraham had a covenant with God).

Not withstanding the above, the risks to an infant male are bleeding and slight infection.  This is much less serious than the risks associated with penile cancer, sexually transmitted diseases and general hygene.  I can tell you that if I had to do this as a teenager or an 18 year old because it was medically necessary - I would remember the pain for years to come.

I can't speak for those who aren't circumcised.  I haven't really ever been bothered by it.  Certainly I wasn't the one that everyone looked at in the shower after gym class - but I know who was...

In such a progressive state as Massachusetts, it's a shame that we have certain legislators that are so narrow minded as to think that taking away a parent's right to choose what's right for their child is ok.  There was a huge backlash on the 10pm news last night about this.  It's a waste of everyone's time and effort.  We have bigger issues in MA to worry about.  Like making the fluffernutter the official sandwich of the Commonwealth, oh and yea, job creation.

Darren,  It sounds like a joke regarding the umbilical cord, but so does this.  I wonder how many males remember the pain they experienced at one day old?

I can assure you that the pain of childbirth far exceeds the few seconds of pain this procedure produces.  Maybe they should pass a bill to ban that pain as well.

Wallace,  that seems so gross.  I know they also freeze them for future use in cancer treatment should a family member require it.

JP,  I feel as strongly about abortion as you do.  It sickens me that some dumb azz would promote a bill to prevent a few seconds of pain, but would not bring forward a bill to perserve the life of the unborn.

Larry, besides the medical reasons, consider that it will make a religious ritual illegal.  Some Indian groups drink Paote - a drug - its not illegal.  Muslim women wear head scarves or cover their faces.

If you can pass a law that makes a religious ritual illegal and destroys tradition - pass a law to ban covering up in society.  Pass a law to stop the use of drugs in religious celebrations.  Pass a law to ban sweat lodges which have already killed several people.

Once the religious freedom sanctity is breached - it will be fair game to attack all of it.

What a waste of taxpayer dollars.

alice,  I wonder if wine would help?  A bill to take away a parents right to determine a medical procedure for their own child.  The implications are overwhelming.

Martin,  Thank you for contributing.  Very well said.  This is a bunch of nonsense.  The voters should remember who proffered this when election time rolls around.

alice,  You have to be kidding me.  Wonder how loud he would yell if someone proposed a bill that banned the taking of wine at Mass?  It is potentially unsanitary.  So is the handling of communion.

Does anyone check the ID of young people to see if they are of age?
